An evolution of the Porsche 356 – the German manufacturer’s first production automobile – the 911 has long been considered the flagship of Porsche‘s lineup, dating back to its initial debut in 1963. Now, the brand looks to continue the legacy of the two-door grand tourer with the introduction of the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo ahead of its scheduled public debut at September’s 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Both the 911 Turbo and high-performance Turbo S see a six-cylinder 3.8 liter direct-injection turbocharged engine under the hood – capable of 520 hp in the 911 Turbo and 560 hp in the Turbo S variation – while the transmission comes in the form of Porsche’s AWD 7-speed dual-clutch PDK, an upgrade over the run-of-the-mill Tiptronic. Boasting a top speed of 198 mph, the Turbo S can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds while a Turbo equipped with the Sport Chrono Package nearly matches its quickness at 3.2 seconds. Cosmetic changes to the new release include a longer and wider body style, 20-inch alloy wheels, and options for the likes of LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights and a camera-assisted control for the main beam.
