Tory Lanez’s recent attempt to overturn his 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion has reached a critical point. The California appellate court accepted his appeal claims, allowing him to contest the verdict based on alleged “prosecutorial misconduct” and issues with evidence admitted during his trial. Lanez’s lawyers also argued that new evidence, particularly statements from his driver, could cast doubt on his guilt. However, the California Attorney General’s office has responded that this supposed evidence lacks sufficient grounds to alter the outcome, citing substantial other proof pointing to Lanez’s guilt, including testimony and forensic details that reportedly corroborate Megan’s account.
Currently, the Attorney General has up to two weeks to respond to the appellate court. If Lanez’s appeal moves forward, it could potentially lead to a reconsideration of his sentence, though a complete overturn.
